Schooling for the future

This expedition will focus on schooling in Rwanda, particularly the role of education in national development. It will feature interviews and materials from Ministry planners, discussion of the way that vocational education is woven into the academic fabric in Rwandan schools, video documentation of the community service work teachers and pupils accomplish through the schools, investigation of the hardships families are willing to bear to be able to afford to send their children to school, and interesting explications of the constricted and therefore competitive promotion system whereby only some students are allowed to progress to each successive state in schooling. Current plans are for this team to teach several students to use simple video cameras and to have them film parts of their own school-day routines. These clips will be the inspiration for similar exercises in U.S. schools that adopt the Schooling for the Future learning expedition.
